Dreamliner door cracks

STAFF REPORTER
Dreamliner door cracks

Six days into the inaugural flight of Akashbina, Biman Bangladesh Airline’s first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, a door of the $128m latest model of aircraft’s cracked yesterday, puncturing the hype created around it.

The airlines, in a quick attempt to pass the buck, has said the mishap occurred due to a mistake in the part of an unskilled engineer-- Mosatfizur Rahman-- who has been temporarily dismissed from his duties.

A probe committee has also been formed to investigate the incident, the director of Biman’s engineering division, said.

Due to this incident, Biman’s Dhaka-Singapore flight was delayed by one and a half hours.

The broken part of the door of the Biman aircraft has been found in London and it will be brought back in the next three days, said Shakil Meraj, General Manager (Media and Communication) of Biman.

According to officials from the engineering division of Biman, preparations were going on in full swing around 8:30am on Tuesday for the Dhaka-Singapore flight.

The caterers were loading the food while the aircraft was connected with the boarding bridge.

Engineer Mostafizur Rahman tried to close the door but he found that a raft of the door was missing. He tried to hide it and manually close the door but other staffs of the airlines found what he tried to do.

The other engineers of the airlines suggested that it will be possible and safe to operate the flight without the raft in the door. One and a half hours later, the flight took off.
