Sheikh Fazle Fahim, president of the Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has been elected as the director of the apex business body of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), reports BSS. He contested the biennial election of the Federation of FBCCI from the “Unnayan Parishad”, a panel led by Abdul Matlub Ahmed, chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group, also elected uncontested the president of the FBCCI recently.
Sheikh Fahim was nominated from the chamber group.
A total of 1,950 out of 2,204 votes were cast in the apex trade body’s election. The Chamber Group cast 418 votes out of 436 votes, while the Association Group casts 1,532 votes out of 1,768 votes.
The FBCCI board is comprised 52 directors, of which, 32 were elected through direct votes and the remaining 20 nominated from different chambers and associations.
Of the 32 posts, 16 have been elected from the Chamber Group and another 16 from the Association Group.
The election was held on May 23 for the 2015-17 tenure of the FBCCI.
Sheikh Fazle Fahim, son of Awami League presidium member and senior parliamentarian Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim. Fahim completed his post graduation in political economy at St. Edward’s University in 2002. Earlier, he completed his graduation from the same university majoring in economics. Fahim also studied at Harvard University.
