Bangladesh Unde-23 team will take on Thailand in their Asian games second match today at Pakan Sari Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Bangladesh, who began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Uzbekistan, will play the second match just to save their face, as in their group another team is Qatar, who are rated the most favourites to be the group champions and there will be no possibility to make even any upset, as they can just dream to make it against Thailand.
It will be the first meet against Thailand
after a three years gap as they last played in 2015 in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International football tournament when Bangladesh national side won the match against the Thai Under-23 by 1-0.
However, since 1973, the meeting between Bangladesh and Thailand in Merdeka Cup (Bangladesh 2-2 Thailnad), Bangladesh and Thailand played 13 matches in different competitions of FIFA and AFC while Bangladesh could manage three wins and as many draws and in rest of the match Thailand defeated Bangladesh.
However, it will be the 14th encounter between Bangladesh and Thailand with the latter are clear ahead with winning seven matches out 13 and specially, in recent time Thailand had huge improvement in the international arena and throw challenge very often to the powerhouses of Asian football when they also forced Qatar to make 1-1 all draw in the ongoing Asian Games in their group match on the same day of Bangladesh-Uzbekistan match. In FIFA ranking also Thailand are far ahead of Bangladesh placing 122 whereas Bangladesh are on 194.
Despite in all unenthusiastic record and having no more chance to win any match in the Asian Games, newly appointed Bangladesh coach Jamie Day is not hopeless, as he thinks - Victory may be come, it is meaningless to surrender before to fight.”
Jamie Day, who expressed his satisfaction with the players approach despite conceded defeat against the Uzbekistan, wants points against Thailand.
