Three different theatre troupes will bring their theatrical play at the three different stages of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the Segun Bagicha of the capital today evening.

Padatik Natya Sangsad (TSC) will stage its Liberation War-based play ‘Kaal Ratri’ today evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall, while Drishtipat Natyadal will stage its acclaimed play ‘Raja Himadri’ at the National Theatre Hall.

On the other hand, in memory of Humayun Ahmed, Mad Theatre will stage its maiden play ‘Naddiyo Natim’ today evening at the Studio Theatre Hall at the same time today.

Directed by Asadul Islam, the play ‘Naddiyo Natim’ has been made based on the novel of Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Ke Kotha Koy’. Naddiyo Natim is a main character of this novel. Matin Uddin is an Uzbek poet. He reversed the spelling of his name – Naddiyo Natim. He got acquainted with Komal during his tuition. Meghdut plays the role of Komal. Muna is Komal’s mother, played by Subarna.

Physically-disabled Komal revealed a secret of her life to Matin, who jumped off the roof to protect Meghdut’s secret. Interestingly, all three actors in the play – Asadul Islam, his wife Sonia Hasan Subarna, and their daughter Meghdut -are from the same family.

Based on Lamisa Shirin Hossain’s story ‘The Lone Survivor’, the play ‘Kaal Ratri’ has been adapted by Tanvir Ahmed and directed by Wahidul Islam. The story encircles the night of March 25, 1971 when Pakistani military killed thousands of innocent Bangladeshis. The play unfolds as a young girl asks his grandfather, who was a teacher of Dhaka University in 1971, about the war. Through stories and her encounter with a wounded freedom fighter, the girl gets to know about the war and its sheer horror. The play, which is the 38th production of the troupe, was premiered in November of 2015.

The probable cast of the play includes Sakhawat Hossain Shimul, Sanjida Parveen, Mohammad Imran Khan, Ikramul Islam, Jinia Azad, Tasmi Chowdhury, Syeda Shamsi Ara Sayeka and Farhad Sumon, among others.

Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor has adapted and directed the play ‘Raja Himadri’ from the Sophocles’ classic ‘Oedipus’. The director converted the characters, place and the plot of the Greek tragedy to give it a sub-continental touch suitable for the contemporary local audience. The storyline, however, remains the same.

The cast of the play includes Khandaker Tazmi Noor, Marjana Borsha, Abdul Halim Aziz, Jahangir Kabir Bokul and Sreya Khandaker, among others.

Tickets are available in front of the venue before the show.
