‘Crutcher Colonel’ on Mahila Samiti Mancha today

Theatre troupe BotTala will stage their play ‘Crutcher Colonel’, an adaptation of eminent novelist Shahaduzzaman’s novel with the same title, today at 7pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Mahila Samiti in Baily Road of the capital.

The play will be brought to the stage on the seventh day of two-week festival ‘Baishakhi Natya Utsab’. Supported by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Mahila Samiti has organised the festival.

Dramatised by Soumya Sarkar and Samina Luthfa Nitra, the play is directed by Mohammad Ali Haider.

The play ‘Crutcher Colonel’ portrays the life of one of the masterminds of the November 7 coup Colonel Taher, who was executed in 1976. During the Liberation War, a high-achieving officer of the Pakistan army Lieutenant Colonel Taher was appointed the Sector Commander for Sector 11.

After liberation, he joined the Bangladesh Army and later on joined at Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal. He was an active player in the events of November 1975 that resulted in General Ziaur Rahman coming to power. After taking charge of the army, Ziaur Rahman tried him in a military court for high treason and murder inside the Dhaka Central Jail, and executed on July 21, 1976.
