3-day int’l mime festival in capital from April 8

A three-day mime festival titled ‘2nd International Mime Festival 2018’ is going to take place from April 8 at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) in the capital.

The mime festival has been arranged by the Dhaka University Mime Action (DUMA) for the second time.

DhakaLive has news that Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, along with the president of World Mime Organisation Marko Stojanovic, will inaugurate the festival at 6:30pm on April 8.

Later on the opening day, director of American New Mime Theater Kaji Moshurul Hooda, Srishti Mime (India), Mu Mime (Germany), Bengal Theatre (Dhaka), Japanese artistes and hosting troupe DUMA will present mime shows.

Several mime troupes coming from Japan, American New Mime Theater, Serbia, Iran, Germany, Nepal, India and Bangladesh are set to participate in this three-day festival.

Among the local troupes, Swapnadal (Dhaka), Pantomime Movement (Chittagong), Muktomancha Nirbak Dal (Gazipur), Rangon Mime Academy (Jahangirnagar University), Mime Art (Dhaka), Bengal Theatre (Dhaka), Silent theatre (Chittagong), Mirror Mime (Rangpur), Blackfame Theatre (Dhaka), Jagannath University Mime Society and Mime Action Mymensingh are participating in the second edition of the festival.  

Besides mime shows, the festival also includes workshop, seminar, and poster exhibition on mime and mime contest among the students of schools and colleges.

The mime show will be held at the TSC auditorium everyday, while street shows will be taking place on the campus premises, including Central Shaheed Minar area, Curzon Hall, Arts Faculty and Shahbag.

The festival will come to an end on April 10 with an award ceremony.
