Two-day art workshop on jute canvas held

To mark the National Jute Day, a two-day art workshop on jute canvas titled ‘Sonali Ashe Nondon-Bhubon’ was held at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha of the capital. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam attended the closing ceremony of the art workshop yesterday. The artists made their art work with strokes of brushes on 3x3 canvases using jute at the event.

A total of 35 artists took part at the workshop under the supervision of renowned artists Hasem Khan and Anisuzaman to make the use of jute popular in diverse forms.

Artist-actress Bipasha Hayat, one of the participants, said, “The difference between paper and jute is jute is unsmooth, but usable. I am making my art on a natural product, which gives me a unique pleasure. This kind of initiative is helpful to make the jute popular among the people.”

Mirza Azam said, “Our government has taken all kinds of necessary steps to revive the past glory of the golden fibre jute. The artists will also have to come forward to bring back the tradition of jute.”
