Belarus has expressed its interest to provide machineries and equipment to Bangladesh with an overall investment of $117 million to enhance the capacity of its zila and upazila parishads, BSS reports.

The offer came when a seven-member delegation of Belarus, led by Belarus Ambassador in Dhaka Vitaly Prima, met LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain at his secretariat office today, said a PID handout.

The Belarus envoy said apart from providing machineries to the city corporations and municipalities, the Belarus government is interested to provide machineries and equipment to the upazila and zila parishads of Bangladesh to enhance their capacities.

"For this, the Belarus government is keen to invest initially $17 million and later $100 million in Bangladesh," Vitaly Prima said.

The LGRD Minister said the experiences of Belarus on technical capacity and infrastructural sector will help develop the socioeconomic infrastructures of Bangladesh.

"Bangladesh will be benefitted through the exchange of technical knowledge with Belarus on heavy industry and construction machineries," he said.

Mosharraf briefed the Belarus delegation about various government services to the people through the existing five-tier local government system.

He thanked the Belarus government for providing a total of 703 machineries and equipment, including 11 wheel loaders, 11 backhoe loaders, 11 asphalt loaders, some 329 twin rollers, some 330 skid stair loaders, to Bangladesh from the Bangladesh-Belarus joint venture Amkodor-Polash industrial zone, trade and service centre.

The LGRD Minister said these machineries have infused dynamism in the waste management of the city corporations and municipalities alongside construction and maintenance of drainage system and roads.
