Organisers share about last-minute preparation of mega event

Dhaka Art Summit, one of the biggest platforms for South Asian arts, is back this year with its fourth edition to be held from February 2 to 10 at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

The last moment preparation is underway in full swing in all the art galleries of the National Art Plaza. Co-founder of Samdani Art Foundation and also the co-founder of Dhaka Art Summit Rajeeb Samdani and co-founder of Samdani Art Foundation Nadia Samdani shared about the last-minute preparation with the media yesterday.

Rajeeb Samdani said the main purpose of organizing the Dhaka Art Summit is to create an international platform for Bangladeshi artists.

Dhaka Art Summit last time, in 2016, drew over 138000 local and 800 international visitors during its four-day event. That is the reason, they extended the summit to nine days this year, said the organisers.

For the fourth edition of the Dhaka Art Summit, curators, artists, writers and speakers around the world have already started to arrive in Dhaka, and it is expected that this edition of the summit will have over 1200 international visitors.

Each of the days filled with exhibitions, film screening, performances, guided tours and children’s workshop.

Over 120 speakers will participate in 16 panel discussions and 2 symposiums that strive to ground future developments of art in South Asia within the region’s rich, yet lesser-known, past.

Dhaka Art Summit, the world’s largest platform for South Asian art and architecture, not only features paintings and sculptures, but also new media installations, video art, and a rich and diverse performance programme, one of the main attractions being the stage cladding the entrance of the Shilpakala Academy.

Sponsored by Golden Harvest Group, the fourth edition of the Dhaka Art Summit is taking place in a public-private partnership with BSA along with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Ministry of Information of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, National Tourism Board and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), in association with the Bangladesh National Museum. l
