Nine-day ‘Jatiya Pitha Utsab’ 
begins at Shilpakala

To give the urban people a taste of winter delicacies with traditional pithas (cakes), Pitha Utsab Udjapan Parishad is upholding a nine-day ‘Jatiya Pitha Utsab 2018’ (National Cake Festival) on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Pitha Utsab Udjapan Parishad, in association with BSA, has organised the event with a view to upholding different traditional pithas (cakes or patty).

The inauguration ceremony of the nine-day festival was held on Tuesday evening at BSA, where Ekushey Padak-winning eminent cultural personalities Ramendu Majumder and Ataur Rahman, dance artist Amanul Haque, singer Syed Abdul Hadi were present as special guests.

Presided over by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, Jatiya Pitha Utsab Udjapan Parishad president M Hamid attended the event as main discussant.

After the inauguration, a cultural programme was also held at the open stage of BSA. At the programme, artistes of BSA, Bhabna, Spandan, Nandonik Nritya Sangothon performed group dance. Besides, Safiul Alam Raja, Nabia Mitul, Sanat Kumar Biswas, Lovely Sheikh, Sardar Hirok Raja, Md Siddiqur Rahman, Rehana Akter Jyoti, Shahnaz Babu and Jane Alam rendered solo numbers. Mohammad Ahkam Ullah and Naila Tarannum Kakoli recited poems, while musical troupe Bhawaiya presented chorus at the event.

The festival features about 150 types of pithas from different parts of the country. Among the pithas are Malpoya, Malai, Bhapa, Kuli, Rosh Phul, Khejur Finni, Bhajapuri, Bou Pitha, Kola Pitha, Pati Sapta, Rosh Golap, Nakshi Pitha, Pantua, Ilish Pitha, Jhinuk Pitha, Puli Pitha, Dudh Chitai, Mug Pakon and Hriday Haran.

The festival will continue till January 31.
