Teacher strike gains pace as many more join

The strike by teachers demanding inclusion in the Monthly Pay Order or MPO system is gaining momentum. Hundreds more teachers have joined the strike as it enters its 9th day. Many teachers have also been on hunger strike in front of the National Press Club for the last 4 days.

They said that they want Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give them an assurance that they will get the MPO facility before they go home. It is the 9th day of their strike and the 4th day of their hunger strike. They started their sit-in programme last Tuesday.

At least 44 teachers have fallen ill and 4 have been hospitalised so far. They say they will not move until the government meets their demands. The education minister had earlier asked them to call off their strike and go home. But the teachers rejected his request and vowed to continue their demonstrati
