Erdogan assures Bangladesh of continuing assistance

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday assured Bangladesh of providing more assistance on the Rohingya issue, BSS reports from Istanbul, Turkey.

During a bilateral meeting with President M Abdul Hamid on the sideline of the special Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at Istanbul Congress and Exhibition Centre (ICECA), the Turkish President also lauded the initiative of the Bangladesh government in this regard.

President Hamid expressed thanks and gratitude to his Turkish counterpart for providing heartfelt support to the issue of displaced Rohingyas, who took shelter in Bangladesh territory, being the worst victims of the military atrocities in Maynmar's Rakhine state in recent time.

"The friendly and bilateral relations between the two countries are increasing day by day and it would continue in future," Abdul Hamid hoped.

He sought support and cooperation of the Turkish leader to elect Bangladeshi candidate to the post of OIC assistant secretary general for science and technology affairs.

He also thanked the Turkish President to arrange such a time-befitting special OIC summit to raise strong protest against the United States declaration recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and launching a move to shift the US embassy there.

Erdogan lauded Bangladesh performance to face the much-talked about Rohingya issue in Bangladesh.

The Turkey President said his country attaches the priority to enhance the bilateral relations in all aspects.

Erdogan termed as friendly the relations between Turkey and Bangladesh and hoped it would reach to a new height with Muslim countries in coming days.

He also stressed the need for using the potentials of the two countries.  Later, Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, President of Sudan, held a bilateral talk with President Abdul Hamid on the sideline of the OIC summit here in the afternoon.

During the meeting, the Sudanese President lauded the role of Bangladesh peacekeepers' role in the United Nations peacekeeping missions in different countries across the world.

He said the peacekeepers are also playing very significant roles in the internal development of the country.  President Abdul Hamid thanked his Sudanese counterpart mentioning the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
