Solo painting exhibition ‘Pinjor Mukto’ underway at AFD

The solo painting exhibition titled ‘Pinjor Mukto’ (The Uncaged) by artist Zahangir Alom is currently underway at the La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on Friday.

Eminent artist Professor Rafiqun Nabi was present as the chief guest at the event. Besides, Dean of Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka Professor Nisar Hossain and the Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam also attended the opening ceremony.

Curator’s speech was given by Associate Professor and Chairman, Department of Oriental Art, University of Dhaka Dr Malay Bala, while AFD Director Bruno Plasse presided over the ceremony.

Zahangir Alom’s paintings delineate the blossoming beauty and diversity of nature. As with blossoming flowers to the sun, the artworks depict a certain emblematic intercession, a solemn prayer to espouse eternity.

An ardent disciple of nature, Alom observes her with both his sight and insight. He tries to capture the multifarious expressions, moods and soulful ballads of nature in, for example, his series of paintings titled ‘Mystic Romance of the Woods’.

Through this observation, Alom finds himself in the midst of a fantastical mystery that captivates him and fuels him. He also becomes fascinated by the mythical nuances and the effortless grace of Bangladesh.

The exhibition is open to all until 15 December and can be visited according to the following schedule: Monday to Thursday from 3 pm to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday (9 am to12 noon and 5 pm to 8 pm). Closed on Sunday.
