Sergio Aguero has reportedly been taken to hospital after passing out in the dressing room following Argentina's 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in Russia.

The Manchester City star collapsed at half time and was immediately transferred to a hospital in Krasnodar, reports Express.co.uk.

The striker, who scored the second goal for Argentina in the shock defeat to Nigeria, failed to return for the second half and was replaced by Boca Juniors forward Dario Benedetto.

Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli claimed after the match Aguero had "got dizzy".The Argentina FA have confirmed the 29-year-old was taken to hospital to "carry out routine studies as a precaution".

And he has since been discharged from hospital and returned to the hotel with the rest of his team-mates.

The news could disrupt Pep Guardiola's plans for City's trip to Leicester on Saturday (3pm) and the club have claimed he will be assessed before being given the all-clear for the match.

"Sergio Aguero has been cleared by doctors to return to Manchester as planned after suffering a dizzy spell during Argentina’s 4-2 defeat by Nigeria in Krasnodar today," a statement said.

"Sergio never lost consciousness, and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks."He will be assessed by the club’s medical team ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Leicester City."

Aguero looked in fine form before being forced off and scored Argentina’s second just before the break as the sides went in at the break 2-1.

And after the restart they clearly missed him as the South American side went on to concede a further three goals to lose the game 4-2.

It is not the first time Aguero has been hospitalised in recent months after he suffered a broken rib in a freak car accident in Amsterdam in September.

Initial reports said the striker would be out for two months but he missed just two matches for City, keeping him out of the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea and 7-2 win against Stoke.
