Bengal Boi opens for all

With the slogan of ‘Boiyer Majhe Doob’ (Dive into Books), Bengal Boi--an initiative of Bengal Foundation was inaugurated yesterday at capital’s Lalmatia. Bengal Boi is a unique book store with the goal to enrich the mind of the readers by introducing them with culture-art-literature. Bengal foundation has arranged a five day long inauguration festival on the premise of the book store.

Veteran Educationist Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman of Dhaka University and Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi jointly inaugurated the store at 4:30pm yesterday. They also unveiled a book about a narrative tale of Liberation War titled ‘Stories from the Edge: Personal Narratives of the Liberation War’ at the same event.  The anthology consists of fourteen stories written from the perspective of women, and has been edited by DR Niaz Zaman and DR Razia Sultana Khan.

The inauguration ceremony started with a stunning musical performance by the students of Excel Academy followed by a recitation and dance performance. After the cultural performances, the guests took the stage and the ceremony proceeded to the discussion and the inauguration of the book store.

Bengal Group Chairman Abul Khair Litu said about the bookstore, “I wanted to create an interactive place where people from all ages can enjoy literature and art, Bengal Boi is the result of that endeavour.”

Dr Gowher Rizvi gave his ovation to this initiative of Abul Khair Litu and said, “There is a restaurant in every corner of the city but you don’t see a bookstore. People of Dhaka need more Bengal Boi.”

Apart from this, the store’s regular arrangements will include regular book reading circle, poetry recital, introducing new writings and writers, publishing festivals, films and art exhibitions. The store welcomes all readers to make it their very own hangout spot.

The five day festival will feature an unveiling of a book each day and many cultural events such as poetry recital, film exhibitions, musical performance, discussions, art exhibitions and others.

The festival will remain open to all everyday from 11am to 8pm until November 18.
