Online registration for the Dhaka International Folk Fest 2017, to be held November 9-11 at the Bangladesh Army Stadium, will commence on November 1.

A press conference was held Sunday morning at the Westin to brief about the details of the folk fest.

The festival’s third edition will be jointly organized for the third year running by Sun Communications Limited and Maasranga Television to showcase local talents on a global platform, while also roping in the leading names in folk from around the globe to play before an audience otherwise starved of genuine international talent.

Organizers named Shahjahan Munshi, Arif Dewan, Fakir Shahabuddin, Shahnaz Beli, Shah Alam Sarkar and Aleya Begum, Baula and Bauliana, among others, as some of the local talent scheduled to perform.

“A total of 140 folk musicians will perform from across the world. From the mountains of Tibet to the deserts of Sahara, from the valleys of Assam to the forgotten terrains of Persia, from Pakistan to Brazil,” they informed.

Nooran Sisters and Papon & Basudeb Das Baul from India, Grammy winning artist Tinariwen from Mali, the Mekaal Hasan Band from Pakistan, Kutumba from Nepal, Rastak from Iran, Mauricio Tizumba and Sextet from Brazil and Tenzin Choegyal, the award-winning Tibetan artist, were announced as some of the international acts set to appear.

The three-day event will have three separate Entry Passes for each day. The audience is requested to bring the correct Entry Pass along with them for each day to gain access to the event. Registration is free.

Managing Director of Square Toiletries, Square Food and Beverage, Masranga Television Anjan Chowdhury, Chairman of Sun Communications Limited, Managing Director and CEO of Dhaka Bank Limited Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Director of Ispahani Group Emaad Ispahani, Managing Director and CEO of Green Delta Insurance Farzana Chowdhury, and Head of Marketing of Square Toiletries Limited Malik Mohammed Sayeed, were present among others during the occasion.
