Ending all speculations, Nazmul Hassan Papon who is all but certain to be elected as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president for the second consecutive time announced his panel yesterday without any surprise inclusion.

Apart from Nazmul Karim Tinku and Ahmed Iqbal  Hasan, all other directors who were the part of Papon-led committee in the last board retained their place.

Nazmul Karim Tinku has passed away, so a new face was expected in his place while Ahmed Iqbal Hasan literally had no connection with the BCB.

“Iqbal Hasan hasn’t been contacting us or coming in the BCB for the last four years. So we think he has no interest to be the director of the board once again,” Papon said while announcing the panel.

No other panel is announced, challenging the Papon-led panel. And there is no possibility indeed. But there is some possibility of the election in two places for three posts where some councilors may fight against Papon-supported candidate.

For two posts in Dhaka Division, four candidates while for one post in Barisal Division, two candidates have bought the nomination paper. If no body withdraws the nomination paper, the election will be held.

The outgoing BCB chief however singled out the name of 22 candidates in three categories which consisted of divisional and district association, club and players quota.

Papon himself and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, a longest serving BCB director will take part in the election from the NSC quota.

According to the constitution, there will be 25 directors in BCB. Papon however though gave the 24 candidates name, he lent his support to Sheikh Naeem in the divisional quota.

Two directors each will come from the Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna Division. Naeem got the support in Dhaka Division along with Naimur Rahman Durjoy who is in the Papon’s panel.

Papon said that some other candidates may take part in the election in Dhaka Division.

“I heard the name of Tarikul Islam Titu, a councilor from Narayanganj District Sports Association. He has bought the nomination panel and is keen to take part in the election. In Barisal Division, more than one candidate has collected the nomination paper. If no body withdraws, then the election will be held in those two places,” Papon said.

AZM Nasir and Akram are the Papon’s candidate in the Chittagong Division while Kazi Enam and Sheikh Sohel from Khulna Division. Shafiul Alam Swapan in Rajshahi, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury in Sylhet, MA Awal Chowdhury Bhulu in Barisal, Advocate Anwarul Islam in Rangpur, Khaled Mahmud Sujon from the Players quota are in the Papon-led panel.

A total of 12 directors --Enayet Hossain Siraj, Mahbub Anam, Afzalur Rahman Sinha, Jalal Yunus, Lokman Bhuiyan, Monjur Quader, Hanif Bhuiyan, Najib Ahmed, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanjil Chowdhury, Shawkat Aziz Russel and Gazi Golam Mortuza Pappa—gets the support of Papon in Club quota.

Monjur Quader earlier in the last time got elected from Munshiganj District Sports Association while IH Mallick came from NSC quota. This time they will take part in the polls from club quota.
