We often underestimate the fact that our bodies have an intrinsic healing capacity and many a time just a few simple home remedies can actually help us to deal with diseases.

Experts say that leading a healthy life, eating right and exercising daily can help one reduce dependence on medication. Dr Dillon Dsouza, consultant ENT, head-neck surgeon and dermatologist Dr Apratim Goel share a few tips that can help deal with skin asthama and allergies.

Refrain from scratching.
Reduce contact with water.
Avoid eggs.
Keep stress at bay.
Keep track of the common triggers and avoid them.
Make sure to get adequate sleep.
Trim your nails regularly.
Quit smoking.
Exercise daily.
Avoid irritants like lanolin and wool.
Avoid dusty and dirty spaces as it may trigger skin asthma.

Eat right...

Consume foods rich in vitamin B and zinc to reduce irritation and fortify the immune system
Eat foods high in omega3 fatty acids. Natural foods such as salmon, flax seeds, spinach and walnuts are also rich sources of omega 3.

FOLLOW A DAILY SKINCARE REGIME

Moisturise the affected area of your skin regularly.

Switch to mild body cleansers and washes.

Apply vitamin E on the affected area.

Always use hypoallergenic creams, make-up, cleansers and detergents.
