Disney to cut 200 jobs from its TV networks division

Disney to cut 200 jobs from its TV networks division

Walt Disney Co. is about to eliminate 200 jobs at ABC and cable networks including Freeform as part of a realignment of the business, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, reports Bloomberg.

The cuts are mostly falling on operational areas, such as finance, and will involve the company’s entertainment networks, not ESPN, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing nonpublic information.

Disney’s media networks are trying to adapt to shrinking audiences for conventional TV and growing opportunities online. The company is shifting resources to meet those future business needs and will be hiring elsewhere, the person said.

The company had about 195,000 employees as of the end of fiscal 2016.
