Kanthashilon brings ‘Jadur Latim’ on Shilpakala stage today

Kanthashilon will stage the yet another show of their new play ‘Jadur Latim’ today at 7 pm at the National theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. The play will be brought to the stage as a part of the ongoing sixth edition of the ten-day theatre festival titled ‘Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival’.

Based on Egyptian Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz’s novel ‘Arabian Nights and Days’, Rafik Hariri has dramatised the play ‘Jaguar Latim’ and professor Mir Barakat has directed the play.

About the play director Mir Barkat said, “Egyptian Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz wrote his novel ‘Arabian Nights and Days’ based on the medieval story collection ‘The Arabian Nights’. Rafik Hariri translated some parts of the novel and dramatized the play. Though the play has been written based on medieval incidents, but the writer draws present time politics, social incidents, personal conflicts in a parallel case.”

‘Jadur Latim’ an allegorical-social drama running for one and a half hour, tells about two nefarious jinns named Ifrid and Kufrid. Ifrid roaming around in the veins of the people and Kufrid create chaos, doubt and disbelief in the minds of people by misinterpreting them about religion.

The cast of the play includes Rais-ul-Islam, Mostofa Kamal, AKM Shahidullah Kaiser, Sohel Rana, Salam Khokon, Ananya Goswami and more.

On the other hand, Theatre Art Unit’s much-talked-about play ‘Court Martial’, which has been adapted from the Marathi playwright Sawdesh Dipak’s play with the same title, will be staged at the Experimental Theatre Hall, while Rongapeeth will bring their play ‘Saadi Paygam’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA at the same time.

Besides staging the plays, street play by Natyadal, recitation by the Projonmo Kontho and Dhaka Swarokolpon, Music rendition by SBhinnodhara and Nandan, and dance performance by Dibya and Angikam will be held at 4pm on the open yard of BSA.
