Rape evidence found on Rupa’s body

Doctors have found rape evidence in the autopsy report of Jakia Sultana Rupa, who was killed after being gang raped in a running bus. 

The medical team, formed to conduct autopsy on the body of Rupa, submitted the report to district civil surgeon on Tuesday afternoon, said residential medical officer Saiful Islam Khan of Tangail General Hospital.  

Rupa was killed due to the severe injuries on her head and before her death the 27-year old woman was raped, said the autopsy report.

On August 25, Rupa was killed after being gang raped in a running bus when she was returning to Sherpur after attending the teacher registration examination in Mymensingh. 

After recovery of the body from Panchmail area of Mahupur upazila, it was buried at Tangail central graveyard as unidentified body on the following day after a post-mortem.

Later, district administration exhumed Rupa’s body and handed over to family members for proper burial. 

On August 28, police arrested five people, including the bus helper, driver and its supervisor, from Mymensingh in this connection.

The five arrestees, later, confessed their involvement with the heinous crime before a court. 

Rupa, a resident of Asanbari village in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district, completed her Masters from Bogra Azizul Haque College and was studying law at Dhaka Ideal Law College. 

She was working at Unilever Bangladesh Limited at its Sherpur branch.unb.
