‘Doob’ to participate in two more int’l film festivals

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s much-talked-about film ‘Doob’ (No Bed of Roses) has been selected for the El-Gouna Film Festival in the competition section in Egypt. The festival is set to begin on September 22 and will end on September 29.

In the festival, ‘Doob’ will compete with several award winning films like Aki Karusmaki’s ‘The Other Side of Hope’, which won the best director award at the Berlin International Film Festival, ‘The Insult’--the best actor winning film at the Venice Film Festival, Locarno’s ‘Scary Mother’, Tribeca Film Festival’s best film ‘Son of Sofia’ and others.

Moreover, the film will also participate in the 22nd Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from October 12 to 21 in Busan, South Korea.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki confirmed the news through a Facebook post. He wrote in his timeline on Sunday, “Very happy to share the news of some important selections for Doob (No Bed of Roses). It has been selected for inaugural El-Gouna Film Festival’s competition section alongside some of the strongest titles of this year.”

He also wrote, “I also feel very happy to announce the selection of ‘No Bed of Roses’ for Vancouver International Film Festival in Busan”.

Starring celebrated Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan and popular actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha from Bangladesh in the lead roles, the film is said to be loosely based on late Bangladeshi writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed--- who divorced his wife of 27 years and married an actress 33 years junior to him. The filmmaker, however, has denied that it’s a biopic.

Earlier, the film ‘Doob’ participated at the 39th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival in Moscow, 11th edition of the prestigious Asia Pacific Screen Awards and at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
