EC’s dialogues with two Islamist parties Tuesday

The Election Commission (EC) will sit in separate dialogues with two Islamist parties --Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Islami Oikya Jote- on Tuesday as part of its ongoing dialogues with registered political parties.

"The talks with Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish will start at 11am, while that with Islami Oikya Jote at 3pm," said Director (PR) at the EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman said on Monday.

The two separate meetings will be held at ‘Nirbachan Bhaban’ in the city, with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair. The Election Commission initiated its dialogue with 40 registered political parties on August 24 to take their opinions over its preparation for the next national election likely to be held at late December 2018. The EC invited the parties from bottom of the list in line with the sequence of registration.

Besides, the Commission is planning to arrange its dialogues with HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party on October 9, while with BNP on October 12 and ruling Awami League on October 16 next. The EC Secretariat has drafted the schedules of talks with more 20 registered political parties, including three major parties --AL, BNP and Jatiya Party, said officials at the EC Secretariat.

The draft schedules will be placed at the Commission’s meeting soon for final approval, they said on Monday. The Commission earlier fixed dialogue schedule for 20 other parties. Seven parties so far have been placed their opinions joining the EC’s dialogues.

Earlier, the EC also held talks with civil society members on July 31, media persons on August 16 and 17. unb
