Turkish 1st Lady finds genocide in Rakhine State

Visiting Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan on Thursday said what is happening in Myanmar's Rakhine State is "tantamount to genocide" and solution to Rohingya crisis lies in Myanmar only.

She also affirmed that the government of Turkey will stand beside the Rohingyas who have fled to Bangladesh in the face of ethnic cleansing in Myanmar's Rakhine.

"We'll stand beside the Rohingyas. Only Myanmar can resolve the crisis," said the First lady thanking Bangladesh for giving Rohingyas shelter on humanitarian ground.

Emine came up with the remarks while visiting refugees at Kutupalang Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila in the afternoon.

She also said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will take up the issue at the UN General Assembly in a bid to find an immediate solution to Rohingya crisis.

Emine was accompanied by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, DC of Cox's Bazar, the district superintendent of police and other senior government officials.

They also held meeting with government officials, representatives of the international organizations who are working on Rohingya issue.

The Turkish delegation spent around one hour in the camp and distributed relief materials among the new arrivals.

Emine Erdogan talked to some of the injured Rohingyas in the camp. Thousands of Rohingyas were seen both sides of the road and inside camps with a hope that they will get some instant relief materials.

The First Lady and other delegation members arrived at Cox's Bazar Airport by a special aircraft at 12:05pm.

From the airport, they went Ukhiya by road and reached at Kutupalang camp at about 1:45pm.

Earlier, a special aircraft carrying her and her entourage landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 3:00 am.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam received her at the airport.

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Dhaka in a different aircraft.

The visit follows the latest bloodshed in Myanmar's Rakhine State that resulted in the fresh influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh.unb.
