Ilish Shorshe

Ilish is another name for the Hilsa fish and is quite popular in Bengali cuisine. Ilish Shorshe is a simple Bengali recipe which is truly delicious and easy-to-make too! You can prepare this delectable fish recipe for your non-vegetarian friends on pot lucks, kitty parties, and even picnics, they will love it for sure. Cooked with ilish fish, yoghurt, green chilies, turmeric, and salt, the main ingredients that make this dish delicious are yellow and black mustard seeds along with mustard oil. You can enjoy this mouth-watering fish recipe with steamed rice!

INGREDIENTS:

4 pieces iilish fish
6 tablespoon mustard oil
2 cup water
1/2 tablespoon black mustard seeds
1/2 tablespoon mustard seeds
salt as required
1 pinch turmeric

For The Main Dish

3 tablespoon yoghurt (curd)

10 green chili

How to make Ilish Shorshe

Step 1

Soak black mustard seeds and yellow mustard seeds for at least for 2 hours in water. After 2 hours, grind the seeds with salt and a green chili for 30-35 seconds. Make a thick paste and don't grind much as it will make the paste bitter.

Step 2

Put a pressure cooker on medium flame and heat mustard oil in it. When the oil is hot enough, add mustard seeds paste along with the other ingredients. Stir once and then add fish in the paste and stir continuously so that the paste is mixed well with the fish. Cook the fish on high flame for about 15 minutes.

Step 3

Let the dish sit in cooker for 10-15 minutes and add more green chilies, if needed. Serve hot!
