A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee was held in the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Wednesday evening.

The Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated on the 10th of Zilhaj month of the Hijri calendar.

The committee's decision followed evaluation of getting reports from all district administrations and offices of Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation.

Famous with names like Kurban  and the Feast of Sacrifice, this merriment is scheduled every year as per the moon or lunar based Islamic calendar. Lasting for ten days, Eid ul-Azha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah.

According to the Muslim religious practice, on the occasion, the Muslims across the country offer prayers in congregations and sacrifice animals in the name of Allah.
