BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the country is now in the grip of injustice and unjust due to Awami League's extreme close-minded politics.

"Awami League is basically a very narrow-minded political party. They can't think anything beyond their own thoughts and can't evaluate anyone out of their party. They think they themselves are the state spreading unjust and injustice in every sector of the country," he said.

Speaking at a discussion programme, the BNP leader further said, "That's why the Supreme Court in its verdict said Awami League has turned into a monster due to its parochial party politics."

Bangladesh Kira Unnayan Parishad, a-pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU), marking BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's late younger son Arafat Rahman Koko's 47th birth anniversary.

Recalling Koko's contributions to the country's sport sector, mainly the cricket, Fakhrul said he met a premature death due to repression driven by political vengeance despite having no involvement in politics.

He alleged that the country's different important sectors, including sports and culture, are being affected badly due to short-mined party politics of the current government.

"We can't get the best athletes, the best bureaucrats and the best artistes due to prevailing narrow-mined party politics. Now those who want to lead a good and decent life don't get interest in doing politics due to the current political culture."

The BNP leader said the country is now on the brink of a deep ditch due to the government's misrule and partisan politics. "We'll get plunged into a dark tunnel if we can't come out of the current political culture through forming a national unity."

During its rule, Fakhrul claimed their party tried to keep some important sectors like sports out of the influence of partisan politics. "Many pro-Awami League people had been there in different sports organisations and institutions during our rule."

The BNP leader alleged that Awami League has imposed a 'fascist' rule on people by establishing a reign of terror and spreading panic everywhere.

He called upon people from all walks of life to be vocal to establish their rights and put up a strong resistance against misrule.

Earlier in the morning, BNP leaders and activists placed wreaths at the grave of Koko at Banani graveyard, marking his birth anniversary.

BNP also arranged a doa and milad mahfil at its Nayapaltan central office seeking eternal peace of Koko's departed soul.unb.
