‘Modhu Shikari’ to be staged at Mahila Samity

On the occasion of celebrating the 9th founding anniversary of the theatre troupe BotTala and its biannual conference 2017, BotTala has organised a day long programme ‘Biruddher Bastobe Praner Melay’ at the Mahila Samiti in the capital’s Baily Road tomorrow.

As a part of the celebration, BotTala will stage it’s play ‘Modhu Shikari’ at the Mahila Samiti Mancha tomorrow.

The drama ‘Modhu Shikari’ has been made based on the Bengali translation of ‘The Honey Hunter’, an illustrated book for children written by French poet Kartika Naïr. Shamim Azad translated the book where Mohammad Ali Haider has directed the play to bring the story on stage.

The story of the honey hunter begins in the Sundarbans where three rivers meet in a huge mangrove forest. Everyone who lives in the Sundarbans loves honey, but one most of all- a small, spiky-haired boy named Shonu. One year, due to climate change the seasons in the Sundarban get mixed up and the region is plagued by powerful cyclones followed by drought and hunger. Shonu becomes so unbelievably hungry that he sneaks into the mangrove forest and breaks the golden rule: he takes honey from the hives even though it is not yet the harvest time. Shonu doesn’t quite realise that what he has done could get him into deep trouble with the almighty demon tiger Dakkhin Rai and the goddess Bonbibi, the Guardian Deity of the Sundarbans

The actors used pictures drawn on fabric for the performance along with various other props, singing and dancing to make pleas to save the forest. Illustrations of Shonu, his mother and the village along with the birds and bees and the animals of Sundarbans adorned the walls to accompany the storytelling.

‘Modhu Shikari’ will be performed by Evan Reaz, Sheyuti Sheen Shahgufta, Samina Luthfa, Parvin, Taufique Hasan and Tahim Johir.

Set and light designs are done by Imran Khan Munna, while music is done by Ziaul Abedin Rakhal, Sharmin Ety, Bakirul Islam, Mohammad Sayeed, Mahfuza Siddika and M I Rony, Towfiq Hassan are in costume design.

Besides, staging the play ‘Modhu Shikari’, the programme also feature cultural programme, council meeting, taking oath by the new executive councilors and others.
