AL, BNP income up

The ruling Awami League and its archrival BNP yesterday submitted their annual financial report to the Election Commission both showing increase in their revenue. In the annual financial statement for the 2016 calendar year, the AL showed its annual income is Tk 1.82 crore higher than its expenditure. According to the report, AL's total revenue was 4,84,34,097 in 2016, while its expenditure was Tk 3,01,84,799. A three member delegation of the party led by its presidium member Abdur Razzak handed over the report to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda around 10.30am.

 

He said around Tk 1.24 crore has been added to the party's account in this year as interest from the deposited money.

Main sources of income include fees collecting from members of the executive committee, national committee, advisory committee, members of parliament, joint secretaries, central sub-committee and primary members of the party, donations, selling nomination papers for bi-polls and bank interest, he added.

The main expenditure was providing salaries and bonus for employees of the party offices, entertainment and other costs, central rally, other official expenditures during elections, newspapers publications and relief operations, he said.

Meanwhile, the BNP showed it earned Tk 4,13,68,730 while spent Tk 3,99,63,852 in 2016 calendar year.  Although the party

had deficit in recent years, it had Tk 14,04,878 in deposit last

year. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the report to the CEC in the afternoon.

About the surplus, Rizvi said, “There has been an amount as surplus as the party got some donation in its latest council.”

According to the existing law, each registered political party is obliged to submit its financial statement of the previous calendar year by July 31.
