Shaila Tasmeen enchants audience at Nat’l Museum

Singer Shaila Tasmeen enchanted the audience at an evening of classical vocal music, organised by Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, at the Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the capital on Saturday.

The programme began with the presentation of Khayal ‘Koushik Dhoni’. Then, Shaila Tasmeen presented Modhyaloy ‘Multani’. She also rendered ‘Aji E Ghono Shrabone’, ‘Keno Antohin Birehero Sur’, ‘Bini Sutai Gantha Mala’, ‘Chupi Chupi Chole Na Giye’, ‘ Jochona Koreche Ari’, ‘Tomake Valobese’, ‘Borsono Lag’ and ‘Yaad Piya Aayee’.

During the entire programme, Shaila Tasmeen was accompanied by Ifthekhar Alam Prodhan Dollar on tabla, Monowar Hossain Tutul on guitar, Binod Roy on keyboard and Md Shakoor on harmonium.

Shaila Tasmeen performed in different classical conferences and classical programs like ‘Hindol’ Sangskritik Goshthi Rajshahi, ‘Sadarange’ classical conference (6th time in Chittagong), ‘Lokkhayapar’ classical conference (Narayanganj), ‘Suddho Songit Prosar Gosthi’, Chhayyanaut, ‘Bangla Kheyal Conference’ Channel i, and Dhaka Shilpakala Academy etc.

In 2016, India Bangladesh Foundation sponsored the visit to India of a group from Rajshahi University Music Department faculty which gave performances in four Universities in India, namely, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Viswabharati University Santiniketan, Banaras Hindu University and Rabindra Bharati University. Shaila Tasmeen was part of the group and gave solo performances in the programmes.

Tasmeen is a special grade artist of Bangladesh Television and regularly performs in different TV channels of Bangladesh and India. She has released two albums from Kolkata Bihan Music. First album is Light Classical Music, ‘Sawariya Chitchor’ and the second album is of Tagore songs ‘Bare Bare Firale’.

Shaila Tasmeen is presently working as an assistant professor in the Department of Music at Rajshahi University.
