Bangladesh wants to further strengthen its ties with Sweden and other Nordic countries as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always attaches great importance to relations with those countries.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said this when outgoing Swedish Ambassador Johan Frisell met him at his office on Sunday.

The Swedish envoy lauded the decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join 'The Global Deal Initiative', a social dialogue to ensure safe and decent work environment for the workers.

He appreciated the Foreign Minister for successful holding of the 9th GFMD Summit in Dhaka where Swedish Migration Minister led the Swedish delegation.

Frisell praised the government's commendable efforts to contain the situation after July 1, 2016 tragedy in Gulshan and ensure the safety of diplomats and foreign nationals in Bangladesh, said the Foreign Ministry here.

Foreign Minister Ali shared his past experience and mentioned about the guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hard work of the authorities concerned under his direct supervision.

Frisell expressed deep gratitude to the Foreign Minister for his continued support during his tenure in Dhaka.

The Foreign Minister also praised him for his commendable efforts to create active and dynamic relations between Bangladesh and Sweden.

Referring to the visit of the Foreign Minister to Sweden in September 2016 and the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Sweden in June 2017, the Swedish Ambassador mentioned that the relations between the two countries reached a new height.
