Body of Indian at DMCH for 6 months

The body of Suraj Singh, an Indian citizen, has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) mortuary for the last six months. DMCH authorities now want to know how much longer the body will be kept there.
According to home ministry sources, Suraj Singh, son of Suruddin of Barampura in Binki thana under Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, was a prisoner.  He died on January 3 and his body has been kept at the DMCH mortuary since then.
The sources said that after his demise, the jail authorities communicated with the Indian authorities concerned for handing over the dead body, but they are yet to receive any response.
The jail authorities then wrote a letter to the home ministry to ask whether Suraj Singh’s body should be interred or kept at the DMCH mortuary. When contacted, an official of the Indian High Commission to Dhaka said that they are yet to be informed about the matter. A senior official of the Security Services Division of the home ministry told The Independent that they will take a decision in this regard after consulting with the authorities concerned.
