DHAKA, FEB 3: The Amar Ekushey Boi Mela venue wore a new look on Friday when children and youths visited the fair in large number.
The turn up of crowd reached the peak as it was a week end day.
The children's book zone, in front of the Nazrul Mancha witnessed the highest number of visitors as children came to the fair with their parents.
The book shops at children zone including Pathshala, Patabahar, Progati Prokashan, Aaro Prokashan, BRAC Prokashon, Adigonto, Shishughor, Jhingeful, Eety Prokashon, Shila Prokashoni, Miajhi Publications, World of Children Books and Hottiti were seen busy meeting the demands of the children. Takrim Hossain Nahin, a student of class IX of Ideal Government School was seen busy choosing his favourite books in front of 'Pathshala Prokashan' and bought couple of books of cartoon of 'Tom and Jerry' and 'Doremon' series, the toast of the children this days. Talking with The Independent, Nahin said: “I want to buy as many book as possible because nobody will bring me here everyday.” “I love the place and want to come every day but my parents have no time to bring me here daily,” he added.
Some students of different colleges and universities of the capital adorned the faces of booklovers in different colour especially on Friday, when the turn up of crowd mounts.
Usually people paint their faces and hands red-and-green--the colours of our national flag and Shaheed Minar.
“We adorn the faces especially of children and youths to give them a bit of fun as they love it,” said Jalal Siddique, a student of Dhaka College. “We do it on Friday as a large number of visitors throng the fair on the day,” he added.
It continues on other days as well. But on holidays, students from different colleges and universities do it to give entertainment to the visitors, he said.
A student of class II of an English medium school Farhan Nahin, inscribed the colorful tattoo of Shaheed Minar on his chick, as he is fond of cartoon. Like the children, book sellers were busy to fulfil the demand of the children.
Rasheduzzaman Ruman and Md Shaon, Sales representative of 'Aaro Prokashon' told The Independent that it's a bit tougher to deal with children as they change their decision frequently.”
Shaon also said, bookshops which sale only children books usually wait for holiday as a large number of children visit the fair on holidays. Alimuddin of Miajhi Publication said, “Usually we sell the children book twice or thrice higher in holidays in comparison with other days.” A total of 169 books came to Mela on third day including 16 story books, 20 novels, 17 books on articles, 30 books of poem, five autobiographies, three research books, five rhyme books, one science fictions, three political books, four science books, four books on liberation war and three translation books.
