SYLHET, FEB 3: The Divisional Physics Olympiad under the aegis of Bangladesh Physics Olympiad was held at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) handball ground premises on Friday. Noted writer and chairman of Computer Science and Engineering department of SUST Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal inaugurated the Olympiad.
A total of 500 students from different colleges in Sylhet took part in Olympiad which was divided into three categories. Among these, 60 students were selected as winners and they will take part in National Olympiad which will be held at Dhaka.
Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said at prize giving ceremony programme, there is no alternative way to develop any country without the knowledge of science.
Presided over by convener of Sylhet Divisional Physics Olympiad Committee & dean of the Life Science, Prof Dr Yesmeen Haque, the programme was addressed, among others, by Professor of Physics Department of Dhaka University Dr Ashrad Momin, general secretary of Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Jahangir Masud, Student Advisor Affairs Prof Dr Anuarul Islam Dipu, dean of School of Physical Science Prof Dr Mohammad Unus and Prof of Mathematics department Dr Rashed Talukder.
