Free medical camp for club-footed kids starts

DHAKA, FEB 2: A five-day free medical camp for club-footed children began at Nolta Hospital by a team of specialist doctors from the United States from January 30.
Health and Family Planning Minister Dr AFM Ruhul Haque took the initiative to provide free treatment for club-footed children, said a press release issued here on Thursday. A nine-member specialist team of surgeons came from the US to provide the medical treatment and conduct operations at the camp. They have already performed successful operations on five club-footed children on January 31 and 12 more surgeries on February 1 and 2.
The specialists are Dr Robert Gordon Veith, Dr Mark Curtis Dales, Dr Lois Margaret Gelman and Dr Ruth Lourdes Thomas.
American Prosthetic and Outreach Foundation officer Winfried Danke, Mary Joanne Gladhart, Elizabeth Alexander Rutherford, Ruth Verhoff, Ernest Anderson Burgess and Charles Ray Thomas are also in the team. The local specialists who are also participating in the medical camp are Orthopaedic surgeon of Jessore Dr Abdur Rouf, superintendent of Nolta Hospital Dr Abul Fazal Mahmud Bappi, officer of Debhata health complex Dr Shamimul Kabir and officer of Kaliganj upazila health complex Dr Mosharraf Hossain.
Civil surgeon of Satkhira Sadar Hospital and principal of Satkhira Medical College Dr SZ Atik, officer of upazila health complex Dr Akshedur Rahman and Dr Abul Kalam Azad are providing support to the camp, discharging medical services smoothly.
