DHAKA, Nov 22: Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) yesterday unveiled the cover of a book titled ‘Trends in Militancy in Bangladesh: Possible Responsible’ at the BEI conference room in the city.  The launching ceremony was organised by BEI with Farooq Sobhan, president of BEI in the chair, among others, British High Commissioner Stephen Evans, Brigadier general (retd.) Shahedul Anam Khan, editor, defense and strategic affairs of the daily star, Australian High Commissioner Kilmeny Beckering Vinckers and Mohiuddin Ahmed, publisher of the University Press Ltd were present at the ceremony.
Bangladesh has witnessed rising Islamic radicalisation, extremism and militancy in various manifestations for more than 10 years, the book said.
In the aftermath of 9/11 religious militancy has intensified in the South Asia.
The dramatic rise in terrorist activities in resent years has taken on the form of bomb explosions and suicide bombings generating fear, undermining political stability and hurting business confidence, the book mentioned.
Although there were no terrorist incidents during the immediate past caretaker government’s tenure from 2007 to 2008, militant organizations have been actively regrouping in Bangladesh, the book reported.
