DHAKA, Feb 3: Awami League (AL) central leader and former home minister Mohammad Nasim on Friday said that the people of Bangladesh do not want to see the army rule, militancy and corrupt politicians.
They want a country of peace, democracy and rule of law, he added.
Referring to present political situation in the county, he said that the opposition BNP and its associates are involved in bad activities and they want to turn the country into a state of terrorism and militancy.
Mohammad Nasim was speaking as the chief guest at a protest meeting on ‘BNP’s attempt to get power through army coup, preventing trials of war criminals and irrational activities of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami’ organised by Jatiya Charneta Smritirakkha Parishad at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
He also said from the history of Bangladesh, the whole nation experienced that none of the army governments was able to develop the country.
Referring to the contributions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said after one-eleven she took a high risk to establish a democratic country returning from abroad.
He said that AL would stay in power till the expiry of its term.
Ahmed Hossain, AL organising secretary, observed that the national four leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, AHM Quamaruzzaman and Captain Monsur Ali were the exemplary personality who never compromised with the government after Bangabandhu was killed.
He said that former president Ziaur Rahman rewarded the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman and the four leaders by giving jobs as ambassadors in different countries.
Mentioning the present activities of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami he said that if Khaleda Zia thinks she would capture power like her husband through an army coup, it is not possible as the people from all walks of life are now more conscious.
They said that when the whole nation is eagerly waiting to see the punishment of war criminals, the BNP and its associates are trying to capture the power from the back doors.
They also demanded that the collaborators who are preventing the trials of the war criminals should also be brought under the trials.
The event was presided over by Mujibar Rahman, chairman of Jatiya Charneta Smriti Rakkha Parishad.
He urged the people from all walks of life to be united to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country.
Mozzafar Hossain Paltu, former Secretary of Dhaka city AL, said all the four leaders were involved in politics based on their ideology but now people are involved in politics on their own interest.
Blaming BNP leader Khaleda Zia he said that she always plays dual and contradictory roles.
He also said that without a sense of patriotism a country can not ensure welfare of the nation.
