Jatiya Party Chairman and former president HM Ershad yesterday ruled out the possibility of immediate retirement from politics saying it would not be wise to do so now.
His announcement came against the backdrop of reports published in a section of press that said that Ershad was planning to quit active politics.
The next election is scheduled to be held after three and a half years and if the grand alliancewins that election then JP would be in power for another five years, and after that another election would be held, which is 8 and a half years from now. So, right now contemplating retirement is not wise, the former president said while addressing an Iftar party organized by the Chouddagram Thana unit of JP.
Ershad, who has become the focus of political discussion after the HC verdict on the 7th amendment, said that various types of news reports were published in the media about him.
“What I said and what I did not say -- both were published,” he added referring to reports that quoted him as saying that the next election would be his last election.
