DHAKA, FEB 3: The ruling Awami League will hold a meeting of its central working committee on Saturday to review the country's latest political situation and devise the party's next course of action. The meeting will be held at the party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's official Ganabhaban residence at 6:00pm.
It comes following a heated political situation centering the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led opposition alliance’s countrywide demonstrations and mass procession in Dhaka to press home their demand for revival of caretaker administration system to oversee the national polls.
The AL-led coalition government has scrapped the constitutional provision, upon a High Court verdict, for holding general elections under a non-party caretaker government in June last year.
The meeting, to be presided over by Sheikh Hasina, is likely to focus on strengthening the party's grassroots activities, especially keeping in mind the next general election scheduled for early 2014.
