DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all kinds of gatherings, including processions, rallies and meetings, inside the capital on Sunday, local news channel ATN News reported.

The ban, starting 6:00am in the morning till midnight, comes to avert any untoward incident following the announcement of separate programmes by both the opposition BNP and ruling Awami League on the same day.

DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed imposed the ban as ruling Awami League and the main opposition BNP called individual programmes here on Sunday, according to a press release.

DMP also banned carrying sticks, explosives and firearms.

Earlier, BNP-led four-party alliance announced a mass procession on Sunday to press home a list of its demands, including the reinstatement of the caretaker government (CG) provision, which was scrapped from the constitution through 15th amendment.

The ruling party also declared its programme on the same day, which the opposition terms as ‘apparently to foil the opposition’s agitation program’.
