DHAKA: Main opposition BNP on Thursday rejected the president’s inaugural address to the 12th session of the 9th Parliament, saying it was “totally irrelevant” with the reality.
“We reject the president’s speech as there is no similarity between his speech and reality, except acclamation of the government and the 15th amendment to the constitution,” BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said while addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club.
Alamgir also denied allegations that the BNP was associated with militant activities in the country.
Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal organized the meeting with Shamsuzzaman Dudu in the chair.
“Our party has been fighting against all autocratic and militant activities since the country’s independence. BNP had fought against inception of the militant organisations without patronizing them,” he said reacting to Tuesday’s address to JS by the president.
The BNP leader also criticised the newly-adopted monetary policy which decreased the annual target of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“The Bangladesh Bank has already admitted that the annual target of GDP for the current fiscal would not be achieved,” he said.
