DHAKA: The fate of the implementation of the agreement on enclave exchange between India and Bangladesh lies in the hand of Poschimbanga Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reports Kolkata-based Bangla daily Anandabazar.

In a report published Thursday, the newspaper said the deal “is now being delayed” by the central government as it is yet to win support of Mamata and BJP in this regard.

Citing government sources, the report said that the main cause of Mamata’s disapproval of the matter was a clause in the agreement which says that even if India has to hand over some small pieces of land during the exchange, it will not ask for any compensation.

The report also said due to the recent failure to ink the Teesta water agreement with Bangladesh in wake of a veto from the Poschimbanga Chief Minister, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has now decided to reach internal consensus first before going international on the enclave exchange issue.
