DHAKA: The United Kingdom (UK) has pledged to provide Bangladesh with ₤1 billion in aid to for the next consecutive four years.
"This money would be spend on issues like climate change, poverty reduction, good governance and other development purposes," said Alan Duncan, the British state minister for international development, after a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the planning ministry on Wednesday.
Terming the aid ‘doubled’ than the amount Bangladesh now receives, Duncan said, “Bangladesh is a wet country, vulnerable to climate changes. It is playing a vital role in this regard, and the country needs support."
Muhtih said the British minister also gave him some important suggestions on social security as well.
"We need to do something about it," he added.
Of the amount, ₤75 million would be assigned for the climate change purposes, the visiting UK minister said.
