RCC starts feeding unclaimed dogs
in Rajshahi city

Showing love to the wild beasts Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has started feeding the unclaimed dogs as they fall prey to an acute starvation caused by the adverse impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the city. As part of the benevolent initiative taken by the RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, large numbers of starved dogs were fed at various places in the city on Sunday. Mayor Liton said the hotels, restaurants and student messes are now closed due to the pandemic posing a serious threat to the livelihood of various wildlife and the dogs in particular.

He added that the feeding programme will be continued until the troubled situation is ended. Recently, five dogs entered the deer shed through a damaged barrier and killed three fawns and their mother deer at daybreak at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Zoo and Park in Rajshahi, said Executive magistrate of Rajshahi City Corporation Samar Kumar Paul.

The dogs later ate them, before zoo staff drove them away, he said. The stray dogs used to get food from local restaurants and they have been starved as the restaurants are closed due to coronavirus pandemic. Samar Paul said the zoo had a total of 75 deer with 15 fawns that were born in a period of the last three months.
