5 taken on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court yesterday placed five people on a four-day remand each in connection with killing of a Japanese woman in the capital. After hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty passed the remand order. Earlier, police produced the arrested persons  before the court seeking  10 days' remand for each. The accused were identified as Maruful Islam, Rashedul Haque Bappi, Fakhrul Islam, Jahangir Hossain and Dr Bimal Chandra Shil. Japanese national Heroi Miata, 61, was allegedly kidnapped on 26 August. Later, she found dead on October 29 at a residential hotel at Uttara in the capital, police said. Later, another person introducing him as her grandson buried Heroi Miata at Uttara. On November 19, an official of Japanese Embassy filed a general diary with Uttara police station over the over the disappearance of Hiroye Miyata.
