The curtain of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup-2020 raised in South Africa with the match of the host South African Under-19 and its Afghanistan counterparts at the Diamond Over, Kimberley yesterday. Bangladesh youth will launch their World Cup against their Zimbabwean counterparts. The match of the Group-C will be played at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom at 8.00 am GMT. Normally the name of the defending champions India is being spelled out as the odds-on favourites. Besides, the names of Australia and England are equally being spelled out along with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. There is a lot of reason behind Bangladesh’s name to spell out with the pace of India, Australia and England. This year Bangladeshi youth played 50 more international matches at different conditions before flying to South Africa for the World Cup. Moreover, some of its squad players played at different level of competitive games.

The Tigers youth held a 10-day-long preconditioning camp in Potchefstroom to dovetail with the weather and conditions of South Africa. They played two ICC-approved warm-up practice matches along with a couple of matches against local sides arranged by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The youth Tigers tied with Australia in a warm-up match that indicated their strength and development. Meanwhile, they played against India and England in a tri-nation series on English condition, where they showed a significant improvement of the cricket skills and techniques.

From this tournament, potential and world dominating players will come out. So, every cricket nation has a focus on these players, who will be Virat Kholi, Chris Gayle, Kane Williams, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan for future cricket. Afif Hossain, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Prithvi Shaw, Shahan Shah Afridi have been come out from the 2018 edition.

There are so many uprising cricketers who are waiting to shine in the World Cup for the youth. Many websites across the world including ESPNcricinfo has published a short list with the names of 11 players, who could grab eyeballs at the upcoming Under-19 World Cup. Two Bangladeshi players- Tawhid Hridoy and Shoriful Islam- have been spotted as ‘Players to Watch.’

It is said about Bangladesh batsman Tawhid Hridoy, “If his average of 55 in the 2018-19 Dhaka Premier Division T20 tournament isn't impressive enough, Hridoy enters the competition having gained useful experience at the 2018 edition of the World Cup in New Zealand. His last nine scores read: 51*, 73, 8, 82*, 123*, 115, 111, 53 and 36. He's also a handy off-break bowler and is the side's vice-captain.”

Holders India, Japan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are placed in Group A, Australia, England, Nigeria and West Indies are in Group B.
