Outgoing Ivory Coast envoy calls on president

BSS, Dhaka

 The outgoing Ivory Coast Ambassador to Bangladesh Sainy Tiemele made a farewell call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here on Wednesday afternoon. Thanking the envoy for successful completion of his tenure in Bangladesh, the President said Bangladesh always gives priority to maintain a good bilateral relation with all, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS. During the meeting, the President also highlighted Bangladesh’s foreign policy “Friendship to all, malice to none” adopted by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Like different other countries of the world, Bangladesh is playing very significant role in the United Nations Peace Keeping Missions, including in Ivory Coast, with outstanding performance.  “Bangladeshi peacekeepers are always ready to establish peace in the trouble-prone areas across the world. And their performance is also widely acclaimed by the international community,” he added.

Activities of another modern STS begin in Rajshahi

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has opened the activities of one more modern Secondary Transfer Station (STS) here yesterday aiming at removing and managing the household wastes and garbage in a modern and hygienic manner. Constructed at a cost of Taka 1.06 crore, the station was installed on the campus of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in order to meet up its demands. RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by some of his councilors and office colleagues opened the station through a simple ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Liton said three other similar types of STSs were opened earlier and another is going to be opened at Rajshahi University within near future. He asked all the officials and staffs concerned to render their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to make the effort of making the city neat and clean a total success. He also sought whole-hearted cooperation of the city dwellers to supplement the city corporation’s efforts as without their support the cherished goal could not achieved.  Liton asks his staff to motivate the people against dumping household wastes besides the roads and other public places haphazardly.

Man held with arms, yaba pills

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in an anti- crime drive, arrested an alleged firearm-trader with two firearms, ammunition and 2,630 pieces of contraband yaba tablets in Rajshahi district yesterday. According to RAB sources, the arrested person was identified as Sujan Ali, 30, son of Abul Kalam of Namazgram village under Puthiya Upazila of the district. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the Namazgram area around 10.45 pm and arrested Sujan Ali with a foreign-made pistol, one shooter-gun, two magazines and five round of bullets. Besides, around 2,630 yaba tablets were seized from his possession. The RAB team detained the person for his alleged involvement in firearms trading and trafficking.

Robber held with 17 country-made arms in Chattogram

Police arrested a robber with 17 country-made arms and huge lethal weapons from Shamsu Tila area of East Raozan under Raozan upazila of the district on Thursday. The arrested was identified as Mohammad Alamgir alias Alam. On a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid in the area at about 4 am and arrested Alamgir with the arms and weapons, said Kefayetullah, Officer-in-Charge of Raozan police station. Different cases were pending with different police stations against Alamgir.
