Female patient ‘kills herself’

UNB, Rajshahi

A female patient undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) reportedly took her own life by jumping off the hospital building early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Jesmine Ara, 27, wife of Asadul Islam of Bagmara upazila. She had been suffering from jaundice. Shahadat Hossain, OC of Rajpara Police Station, said Jesmine was hospitalised on November 13 and has been undergoing treatment at ward number 38. She went outside the ward around 2am and jumped off the second floor. She died on the spot. Her family members claimed she was mentally challenged.

Train engine catches fire

UNB, Chattogram

Train movement on Chattogram-Dohazari route remained suspended for five hours after the engine of a train caught fire at Kanchanagar Saiadabad in Chandanish upazila on Tuesday night. Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, Dohazari Station Master, said the engine of the passenger train caught fire while crossing the Kanchanagar Station around 9pm.The loco master stopped the train as soon as he noticed the fire. Later, a firefighting unit went to the spot and extinguished the blaze. The train movement resumed around 2am on Wednesday after a relief train from Sholoshor Station came to the spot and salvaged the train. No casualty was reported.

Cop killed in road accident

BSS, Comilla

A police constable was killed and three others including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) were injured as a truck hit a microbus carrying them from behind on Dhaka-Chattogram highway yesterday night. The victim was Nur Hossain, 42, a resident of Wahedpur village of Laxmipur Zilla Sadar. The accident occurred near Suagazi area at around 12:30 am, while the speedy truck hit the microbus used by a patrol police team from behind, killing the constable on the spot and injuring three others, district’s Sadar South Model Thana police sources said. Injured police personnel were whisked off to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Air Chief returns home

Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat returned home on Tuesday after a four-day official visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the visit, Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force participated in Dubai International Air Force Commanders Conference and Dubai Air Show 2019, said a press release. The main objective of Dubai International Air Force Commanders Conference was “Building a more Agile and Adaptive Fighting Force: Balancing the Hi & Low-Tech Solution”. It is expected that this visit of Chief of Air Staff will help accelerating the process of inducting modern arms, ammunitions and technology in BAF.

Listed criminal arrested

BSS, Dhaka

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a listed criminal in possession of two firearms, bullets, magazine and 1,500 pieces of yaba pills in the city Tuesday night. A team of RAB-4 detained Rubel Hossain alias Potato Rubel from Kolonipara area under Darus Salam police station yesterday midnight, Senior ASP (Media) Md Sazedul Islam confirmed BSS yesterday.  “A foreign-made pistol, a shooter gun, a magazine, two rounds of bullet, one round rubber bullet and 1,500 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from him,” said the RAB official. During primary interrogation, Rubel confessed that he had been involved in arms and drug trading as well as realising extortion in several districts, including the capital. Rubel has been handed over to police of Darus Salam thana.
