Smart livestock village in Rajshahi in the offing

‘Smart Livestock Village’- 2020 is going to be established in Rajshahi division soon to mark the Mujib Barsha- birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman- aimed at reaching all sorts of livestock services to each of the villages in package system. Divisional, District and Upazila offices of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) will implement the smart livestock village programme in all 66 Upazilas of eight districts in the division with the main thrust of producing safe and secure milk, egg and meat like animal proteins after the farmers-level best uses of modern technologies.

The initiative will contribute a lot towards livestock expansion and rural nutrition improvement side by side with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Kolyan Kumar Fouzder, Divisional Deputy Director of DLS, revealed this while presenting his keynote paper in the inaugural session of a daylong divisional level training and stakeholder consultation workshop relating to the achievement of the SDGs held at his office conference hall here today.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Dr Monirul Haque addressed the workshop as chief guest while its Deputy Secretary Abdur Rahman, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Moinul Islam, Deputy Director of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan and Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder of Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Rajshahi University spoke as special guests. Kolyan Kumar Fouzder was in the chair while its Assistant Director Dr Ruhul Amin Al Faruque welcomed the participants.

Kolyan Kumar Fouzder told the participants that salient features of the smart livestock village are: office decoration and information display, digital information database, online reporting, digital attendance and installation of closed circuit camera.

Chief guest Monirul Haque urged all the attending district and upazila level DLS officials and other stakeholders to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government efforts of achieving the SDGs within the stipulated time.

He said the role of livestock sector is immense towards ensuring food security along with meeting up the existing protein deficiency through boosting milk, meat and egg production.

Detailing the SDG issues along with its implementation strategies Monirul Haque also urged them to disseminate the SDG messages to the grassroots farmers so that they can contribute to this field effectively.
