Case lodged,
probe body
starts work

A case was filed yesterday with the Kotwali police station against two persons allegedly involved with the death of seven persons in the port city’s Barua Building under Patherghata of Chattogram. Shahana Begum, wife of a deceased rickshaw puller, lodged the case against two persons with the police station. Officer in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohsin of Kotwali police confirmed this to The Independent. Meanwhile, the five-member committee, formed to conduct investigation into the explosion that knocked down parts of a building in Chattogram’s Patharghata killing seven people in the process only a day ago, started its work from yesterday. The Chattogram district administration constituted the probe body, led by additional district magistrate AZ Sharif Hossain, following Sunday’s explosion. The committee members also visited the place of occurrence in the morning. Initial findings by the committee detected that the explosion was not triggered by a leak in the gas line, said an official involved with the investigation.

Another four-member probe committee, formed by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, had also started collecting evidence from the spot. “We are yet to find out the reason behind the explosion. A detailed report will be made available to the media upon a full investigation,” the OC said.
